Where are the Guys

The reunion was such a reaffirmation for me of what a great group of people I graduated from high school with, getting to see classmates who feel as I do that we have a bond that will last forever.  It amazes me how we as a class have continued to seek each other out every five years since we graduated.  No surprises, no great revelations just good food, good times and great dancing had by all.  Please share your experiences at the reunion through posting a comment to this post.  It would be great to hear how each of you who attended expereinced the reunion.  My favorite experience was seeing the bright smile of Laura Garlington who came all the way from Oregon to attend.  I also got a chance to catch up with my fellow baseball players, Tommy, Bill, Kenny and John.   The eye doctor was in the house so after talking with Charlie about his brother Willie, I thanked him for referring me to the doctors who eventually figured out why my eye was irritated all of the time.  Charlie and his wife were so gracious as always.  I would call him solid….  Ricky Beck brought a couple of our classmates we haven’t seen for a while: Bobby Stokes and Kenny Troxell.  I’ll bet the dynamics amongst them hasn’t changed since high school.  It is what being good friends creates that is timeless.  Well I could go on and on down what is now memory lane that spans over more that 4 decades but this is enough for now.  I really enjoyed seeing all of you and hope to see you again in five years.  Remember to comment if you would like to share how you experienced the reunion as well.  You can view more pictures from the reunion at http://picasaweb.google.com/oforaker/40thReunion#

This field was where we played the softball games

Can you believe it? It will be 40 years in 2009 since we left the hallowed halls of Mckean High School. I often wonder if I visited the school then could I actually find the rooms I had my classes. Those pods sure do make us unique. And what about the schedule where you were actually given free time to do what you want? I remember one softball game we had in the Spring that never ended. Players came and went for the most part. When someone had a class they left most of the time and a new player would join whose class just ended. On one of the occasions I remember walking by John Shireffs tilting his head back to allow a salamander to slither down his throat. I never found out how much money he won on that bet. He wasn’t the only one that did strange things back then. I remember in tenth grade sitting next to another member of the baseball team who was not a member of our class salute the buses as they were leaving by dropping his pants to display his full moon.
